Kilimanjaro Umbwe Route

UMBWE ROUTE this route is one of the shorter but also one of the more difficult routes to reach Uhuru peak however, quite spectacular. Umbwe is known for its caves. The first night you actually sleep at the Umbwe Cave Camp with two more caves that can be visited en route the following day. Also sometimes used as a descending route.

Sample Itinerary ​(6 Days/5 Nights)

Day 1 - Transfer from your hotel to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Umbwe. From here you trek along a narrow ridge between the Lonzo and Umbwe rivers to reach Bivouac No. 1 (also called Forest Caves ) at 9,400ft/2800m. Camp Overnight .

Day 2 -After bbreakefast trek slowly to baranco Camp. Lunch, dinner and over night stay at baranco camp. (3950M)

Day -3 Leave Baranco camp after breakfast to karanga camp (4hrs/4300M).lunch, dinner and overnight stay at Karanga camp.

Day 4 - Leave Karanga camp after breakfast to Barafu Camp (3hrs\4300). lunch, dinner and overnight stay at Barafu Camp.

Day 5 - Trek begins very early and clients are expected to reach the summit by daybreak. then descend slowly to Mweka Camp ( 8-10hrs up and down)

Day 6 - Leave Mweka Camp after breakfast and then proceed further down to Mweka Gate, back to the hotel in Moshi.
